Volleyball
by Ashlie Williams

The volleyball team I was a member of was a lot of fun. Everyday after my eight period class, I would head down the gym to and change out of my uniform into my practice gear. My teammates would start with warm up exercises. Then after exercises are done, we would do warming up practice drills. Some of the drills include bumping the ball ten times, and spiking the ball. Then we do other practice drills, like diving and digging for the ball. Just before we go home, we have a little scrimmage game.

The losers have to put up the volleyball net and volleyballs. The winners, on the other hand, get to go home without doing anything. A lot of times it was fun and other times it was very hard work. We had tons of fun. When we would go to away games, we watch the other teams play and we learned more skills from them. Sometimes we won and sometimes we lost.

When we lost it was only motivation for us to work harder so we would win next time. In the summer time, it was more fun because we were outside practicing instead of being in the hot gym room.

The hard work and the games and playoffs was worth it. There was a lot of teamwork. Our coach always said there is no "I" in team. We always try to work and have good sportsmanship. Most of our teammates got along and some didn't but we dealt with it.

I learned skills, and as of today I still use those skills for teamwork. I'm in a program called Tech37, where we get to design and construct our own websites and download pictures etc. I have to work with people everyday and some of my coworkers ask me for help when they don't understand something. And I do the same in return. So I use the skills I learned when I was on the volleyball team in Tech37.

If you want to sign up, they will announce it on the intercom, and they will want you to go to the gym and do tryouts after the coaches will give you a permission form to fill out with your parents. Then they will say you need a physical form. You have to turn it in by the end of the week.

The coaches are real strict but fun. They may fuss at you but they want to see you have fun and get a little of experience of what a professional has to go through, because they're the best coaches ever. My volleyball coaches were Ms. Steinmiller and Ms. Manita. They are loads of fun.
