Spanish Club
by Minerva Lopez

The Spanish Club is an organization that teaches a great deal about the Hispanic culture and community. It is sponsored and coordinated by Roberto Paredes. The president of the club is Gabriela Rangel. Mr. Morales, Ms. Schromsky, Ms. Nieto, and Ms. Zamudio are also part of the Spanish club. They have proven to be great assets.

The Spanish Club incorporates creative fieldtrips, cultural history, positive social connections with fellow students, and a healthy environment for students after school. The Spanish Club also intends to keep the students away from gang and drug influences, to which teenagers become most at risk after school.

The goals for the Spanish Club are to expand the understanding of Latin American culture, and to instill the importance of diversity and developing a connection to their heritage.

One of their greatest accomplishments during the first year was La Fiesta. La Fiesta was the name given to the annual assembly that celebrates Cinco de Mayo and other Latin cultures. La Fiesta contains traditional dances of different Latin countries. Students prepare themselves for the celebration. They practice long hours to do a dynamic performance.

All students who have good attitudes and would like to diversify themselves are more than welcome to check out the club. They meet on a weekly basis in the rifle range. Monthly, they meet in the library during long division. Meetings are announced during division.
