Basketball
by Charles Myers

Even though Gage Park Academy's basketball team didn't win too many games they were able to accomplish a lot of goals. First, they learned more about the game. Then they played every game hard and had fun doing it. Also, they formed friendships that would've happen if the team didn't exist. Finally, the players learned life skills that will help them after highschool.

The team's record was 5-21. I know you're probably laughing but look on the positive side. Last year our record was 3-23. Gage Park's basketball team featured a lot of seniors: Shawndale Rauser, Anthony Rimpson, Lamont Brock, John Marlow, Stephon Roberts, David Heard, Sid Snoddy, Kevin Banks, Kenneth Bowens, Dontae Walton, and Antwan Hicks. The only juniors on the team were Stinson Caldwell and Charles Myers.

Even though our record doesn't prove it, our team had a lot of talent. We did so bad this year because we didn't work hard in practice. The team's work ethic was poor. We also didn't play hard and together as a team the whole game. Most of the time we played poorly one half of the game and then great the another half. This was the case against Hubbard, CVS, Harper, Lane Tech, and Roberson, which we could've beaten.

Next year I think we're going to be one of the better team in the city. I say this because we have some good frosh-soph basketball players moving up and some good transfer students coming to the school to play basketball. These are a bunch of players that will probably listen and play well together. Our basketball team will be in the 2003 Olive Harvey Spring Tournament.
